Book Review

“Diary of a Dangerous Vision”

by Andy Hawthorne

Andy Hawthorne is a man who is passionate about Jesus and passionate about introducing the street kids of inner city Manchester to the one who can change their lives. This book is the story of his passion and how it led to the Message, the Tribe, the Eden Project and Festival:Manchester, amongst other things. Significantly the stories Andy tells are often ones that illustrate the impact of the Gospel on the lives of disadvantaged and hurting young people. Like the eight year old boy with a serious stutter, who said, "I was miserable until I met Jesus"! The book tells how the Message team continually stuck to their first principles: reaching the lost kids in Manchester with the message of the bible. It is an honest account of the pressures they felt to compromise on this when the World Wide Message Tribe was courted by American music companies. It's also a fantastic story of faith and of trusting God for massive things that continues to this day. Andy says, "In a way this book is just my attempt at a testimony". Well it is certainly that, but it is also a vibrant and uplifting story of how the hardest kids in the city can be reached and transformed by people who dare to take God at His word. Typically the book ends with a Gospel appeal!
