‘Embracing Demonic Spirits’

By Pastor Willie Perry

Reviewer: John Manwell

Pastor Perry was an overseas delegate to Merseyfest in 2005 who spent most of his time in the prayer tent. He was thrilled to meet people from all over the world and felt that God showed him many new things about the Kingdom and ministry while in Liverpool. As he was leaving he felt that God directed him to write this book to share what he had been receiving.

The book is made up of many very short chapters, each of which puts forward simple statements and propositions about the activity of the demonic in Christian experience. Pastor Willie has attempted to support his arguments with Scriptures which are all quoted in full.  At the heart of the book Pastor Perry addresses the long standing debate of whether Christians can be possessed by a demon. He argues that embracing is a voluntary choice that gives demonic spirits power and authority in Christians’ lives, with consequences that are the same as possession.

Pastor Perry lists a wide number of spirits that people may be led to embrace and how the spirits will work to lead people to destruction and disaster. He also shows from the Bible how God repeatedly delivers those who turn to Him and reject the lies and deceptions of evil spirits. He gives some interesting examples of how some symbols and emblems can indicate an embracing of demonic influences. He also emphasises the power of forgiveness and love as the route to freedom in Christian lives.

This book seeks to provoke thought and challenge believers to be aware and take a stand against the flood of demonic influences in the world. For many readers the book will provide a useful start to understand some of the issues relating to the demonic, and for others it will stimulate a fresh look at this uncomfortable subject.
