The Billy Graham Story

by John Pollack

Reviewer: John Cavanagh

This is another excellent biography from the pen of John Pollack. It is easy to read, hard to put down, and gives you a clear insight into the person who is Billy Graham.
It takes you from his earliest days in 1930s North Carolina up to his old age at the beginning of the 21st century. It is an amazing journey! From being a farm boy of his dad’s farm, to a world statesman who dines with presidents and queens.  It points out that Billy has been listed for the 45th year amongst Gallup’s “Top Ten” most admired men. As you read his story you get a glimpse of why.

The book avoids being like a catalogue of events, though many are chronicled. It reveals the passion of Dr Graham to preach the Gospel, his wonderful humility and his gift of bringing peace and reconciliation. The spread of his mission, from the USA to Communist China, is staggering – each one a gripping story about the power of the Gospel to reach and transform lives.

The story of the Harringay Crusade in 1950s England, and how the nation almost broke through into revival but didn’t, is particularly poignant. Billy recalls the decision not to continue after 10 weeks with regret. He should have stayed.

The book contains many such moving moments through Billy’s life. This will encourage your faith, stimulate you to pray and lift your heart
