Week of Prayer 2009

Annie Spiers
Annie Spiers has lived in Crosby for 3 years and worships at St. Luke’s. She has
helped set up In Another Place (IAP): an organisation of people across the churches
in that area that put on high-
Sunday: Our junior youth band is leading the worship in church this morning for the first time. I’ve been helping them to practice with a number of other parents over the past few weeks. Dylan(10) has left his trombone at school. After sending loads of texts trying to borrow one agreed he would play guitar and maracas instead. Met a new guy who is interested in joining the gospel choir, resolved a minor family feud and spent the afternoon with friends. In the evening went to the Confirmation of our 20 yr old youth leader. Get back to watch a recording of Britain’s Got Talent (which I love!) Iron school uniform (which I hate!) before bed.
Monday: We have 4 children in 4 different schools, Hannah (17) and Callum (15) leave first at 7.35pm, Lily (12) gets a knock from friends at 8am and spends 30 minutes getting ready to leave by trampolining and holding the guinea pig, who’s had 4 babies. Dylan leaves last. He’s doing SATs and Hannah is doing AS levels this week. Do diaries with Pete and then off to our morning prayer meeting. I am rubbish praying on my own and LOVE praying in a group. More admin before assembly team arrive to practice Jairus’ daughter. We have a good laugh and share lots of banter. Teams go into schools and go through the Bible in a year with drama, songs and dressing up. This is the end of our first year and we are hoping to find 6 more schools next year! More admin. Enjoy a cuppa in the garden after Dylan gets in, rushed to the shops and cooked tea which is always noisy in our house. Out to ‘Mission Shaped Ministry’ course. Great chance to reflect on what we have done the past 2 ½ years and where we are headed. Get back to see Pete chatting to another couple about a meeting they’ve been at and join in. Late to bed.
Tuesday: Went for a run at 6.30am, highly unusual, about once a year, gorgeous sunshine, great praise and prayer as I went! Hunt for child’s missing bus pass (didn’t find it), plant out runner beans and then morning prayer meeting. Do some washing, prepare for IAP trustees’ meeting with plans for our Christmas event. After lunch in sunshine, prepare for TAG (youth group) tonight and drop Pete off at station who’s off to see our new curate in his theological college. Visit the dentists’ with the children, make tea. Not the best TAG evening ever (some you win, some you lose). Read in the bath before bed and dropped my book in the water!
Wednesday: Woke up feeling bad about TAG session last night. One of my weekly highlights: squash with friend Liz, which I won (love it!). More admin. Spent lunchtime and afternoon thinking about our next IAP event on June 29th. After tea, take Lily to Irish dancing by sitting next to Hannah who is learning to drive. IAP Gospel choir practice preparing for Crosby music festival, try on new costumes and have a photo taken. Picked Pete up from station (more driving practice for Hannah), catch up with him.
Thursday: Good night’s sleep, a good gardening session early on! More admin. Sunny
dog walk with friend Julie chatting about gospel choir. Meeting with Bob and Sheila,
fantastic IAP colleagues. Chatted to Pete over a cup of tea. A couple of issues
to sort with our watermill / windmill in Anglesey. Lots of work to keep it comfy
for holiday lettings but great when it is well used, especially big groups. Have
a night in for once whilst
3 of the children are out! Phoned my sister in Ellesmere
Port and my auntie visiting UK from Canada. Sort out small civil war before bedtime...
Friday: Prepare assembly team props for our visit to 4 primary schools this morning
to tell Jairus’ story. Great song, great team and a good morning! Church member home
from Thailand comes for a cuppa. More admin and then off to Big Buzz music school
in Everton which I helped set up when we lived there: I teach guitar. Others teach
flute, keyboard violin, sax and trumpet. Not many children came tonight. Home for
a ‘chippy’ tea and a family friendly DVD. Late night checking emails before bed.
Saturday: DAY OFF! Lovely lie in, pancakes, bacon and maple syrup for breakfast, children off to drama/gymnastics; start reading the Guardian (new thing for past 6 months, trying to get educated!). Few odd jobs like cleaning, shopping and then.....Britain’s Got Talent!!
