Week of Prayer 2009
A Week In The Life Of...
Steve Yates
Steve Yates has been in Liverpool for 20 years. Born and bred in Birmingham, he still has his Brummie accent. Steve is married to Yvonne and they have three sons: Ian (who’s married to Kate), Mike & Andy. He has been the Pastor of Bootle Elim Pentecostal Church for the past five years. Prior to becoming Pastor he had been Youth Leader, treasurer for a couple of years and also an Elder. He also works full time for Sefton Play Council.
Sunday
I start every day with prayer time and Bible study. Today we had a great meeting,
with a great response to the Word and many lives
touched by God. After the service,
met with the leaders to discuss plans to set up Home Groups and a new Alpha course.
After a bite to eat went for a walk around Crosby Marina with Yvonne. In the evening
we had another amazing meeting at church; the worship was dynamic and God was just
meeting with people during the ministry time. Afterwards we set out the church building,
ready for the week’s training courses in Playwork Level 2 & 3 which are held at the
church. Then Yvonne and I went to McDonalds for a Big Mac and a cappuccino.
Monday
I leave for work at Sefton Play Council, where I manage a Children’s Resource Centre that has approximately 600 affiliated groups who work with children and young people. The Play Council runs an arts & crafts shop, a recycling hall (The Scrounge), hire of play equipment including a toy library and a book library. We also train around 700 – 750 adults each year in Playwork.
My main job today will be preparing for the Trustees meeting at 4pm, writing the
management report and updating the
Accounts report and balance sheet. During the
Committee meeting we discussed and planned the AGM and the Christmas meal. Arrived
home from work at 6pm, had tea, did some church admin work and relaxed for an hour
before going to bed just after 11pm.
Tuesday
At work, spent the morning checking stock levels and re-
get feedback reports
on how the morning sessions went. Finished work at 5pm and picked Yvonne up from
work. Just the two of us for tea tonight as the lads have football training. After
tea, made a few
phone calls and then did a home visit to a couple from the church.
Wednesday
Spent the day in work dealing with customers, writing up the AGM report and meeting
with the Chair. As a Trustee I had to go over to the Opportunity Shop in Bootle to
sign some cheques and catch up with
the staff. Went down to church after work to
set up for the evening meeting. Went home for a quick bite to eat, got changed and
went back for the Wednesday night, Seeking God/Revival meeting. The worship was awesome
and we had a wonderful time in His presence. One of our ladies, recently widowed
and in her 70’s had a word from the Lord. I encouraged her to share this word and
then to pray for everyone in the meeting. The power of God came and many people were
lying on the floor under the
power of God. Awesome! Arrived home just before 11pm,
ready for bed!
Thursday
Had to spend the morning at home as we had to have our central heating repaired.
Went to work in the afternoon -
Friday
Attended early morning prayer meeting with local churches, Northfield, St. John & St. James and The Well, to pray for our local community and for the city. Went back home to pick Yvonne up for work. The staff at the Play Council have breakfast together on Fridays and I have my usual belly buster! After a busy day, picked Yvonne up, had a quick snack and then went to church for the Jigsaw Kids Club. It’s the first night back and the kids are excited. We join in with the Hillsongs songs and actions with the kids, find out what’s happened over the Summer and then start a four week series on Narnia.
Saturday
Started the day with prayer and Bible study as usual, then Yvonne and I went to Southport
after lunch. I had my hair cut and then caught up with Yvonne a bit later for a cappuccino
at Cafe Nero. In the evening we went to Echo Arena to watch Great Britain beat Israel
in the European Basketball League, 96 – 86. Great evening! Arrive home just after
10pm. Match of the Day is on too late tonight, so it’s off to bed
ready to start
another week!
