Hope City Church

In 2003, with humble beginnings in the school hall of Archbishop Blanch School, Hope City Church began its mission bringing hope to the city of Liverpool. The journey of faith took them to a number of great city centre venues like the Marriott Hotel, FACT cinema behind Bold St, even John Lennon Airport! But just last year a door opened for them to move into a truly unique venue right on the edges of the city centre on Vauxhall Road... A run down sports centre!

The church immediately formed a sports & leisure company that during the week is open to the public for sports use, seeing around 300-400 people every week use the gym and five-a-side football facilities. Pastor Andy Gorman says, “The sports facilities here give us a 100% natural bridge into the city of Liverpool. Our friendly staff and Hope City volunteers get to serve their city in a real and relevant way, sharing their lives as they go about their work.”

With money given exclusively by the congregation, the once tired and quiet sports centre has sprung to life and is fast becoming a vibrant expression of God’s unconditional love and of course, Hope City Church meets there every Sunday to celebrate that privilege!

Andy says, ‘Hope City Church is all about loving God, loving life, and loving people. Its heart is for the cities of the North of England. Its aim is that everything it does helps to build the kingdom of God, bring out the God-potential in people and live life the way God intended.’
