CRAZY LOVE

In the midst of all our worries about the credit crunch and economic downturn, Francis Chan writes a book that challenges us to see beyond our own situations, to see the challenge of living for Jesus in a way that consumes our everything.
The book is subtitled “overwhelmed by a relentless God,” which gives us a clue to
how Chan sees the God of the Bible. There’s an urgency all through the book, challenging
true followers of Jesus to learn to live the life of a disciple. A
disciple doesn’t
just agree with Jesus’ teachings, but actually lives them out.
The book begins with a call for us to “stop praying”. This might seem odd at first,
but Chan begs us to stop talking at God, and to start listening to His Word and His
Voice. He bluntly says that to follow Jesus, we should stop rushing into God’s Presence,
but instead quietly consider how magnificent and big He is before we do anything
else. Chan talks about
the fact that we act like “fools” sometimes in that we don’t
have a proper fear of God.
From that point on, Chan paints a challenging picture of what it means to follow Jesus: to take his words seriously in the Bible, to live out His message to the poor and needy, and to sacrifice all we have for the One who gave everything for us.
