Monday
Dropped the boys at school and arrived for work. Team prayer meeting to start the week off on the proper footing followed by a quick team briefing. Checked in with Gavin about researching the correct Memorandum and Articles for the new Social Enterprise we are launching, ‘Not Just Cooking’. Sorted out some enquiries on the accounts while eating lunch. 1pm: Meeting in Wavertree in my capacity as a mentor with Liverpool School for Social Entrepreneurs. 4pm: Meeting with Sefton CVS to sign up Shaun as a new recruit to the Young Apprentice programme. He will be supporting Gavin our chef with Not Just Cooking while training to be a chef. 5pm: The children are ringing the buzzer again – is Kate there? Is Anne there? How many sleeps til Jump club? So cute! 6pm: Youth Alpha – 16 of us tonight with a delicious meal of fried chicken, fresh coleslaw and potato wedges made by Gav and his team. Tonight is led by Hannah, a student on placement from St John’s College, Nottingham. 8pm: Finish an application for funding for Not Just Cooking and home for 10.30pm.
Tuesday
Meeting with colleagues from Youth for Christ, Urban Saints, Liverpool Lighthouse and Scripture Union about the next ‘Toolkit’ event. Hoping to get a well known children’s worker for 2010. 12md: Lunch with Annie Spiers, to discuss plans for ‘The Narnia Experience’. We are in charge of the frozen waterfall and the White Witch’s Castle. 2pm: Meeting with leaders of St John’s Church and School, Waterloo. Becky Johnson, one of last year’s gappers, is now their new schools and families worker. My role is to mentor and support her in this new role. 4pm: Back to the office for more paperwork (there’s always more paperwork) Spent time researching where to move as we need to be out of the current office by Christmas. Huge hike in rent we haven’t factored for so approaching one of our funders to see if they can help. Had a positive reply but no guarantees yet – it’ll be a leap of faith again! Home for 6.30pm. Tea, put the boys to bed then read the Silver Sword to them. Bit of TV and bed.
Wednesday
Meeting with the Playing Out Consortium, a street play project we are part of, looking at how we can extend the project over the winter months. Back to the office for meetings with team leaders Mike and Kate looking at where they are up to on their projects.
Thursday
10am: Met Annie to buy fabrics for Narnia. Back to the office to meet a funder at on. Walk in and everything is tidy – well done team! 2pm: Meetings to get advice about funding sources for Not Just Cooking. Mark and the boys pick me up; Isaac goes off to Drama Academy. Daniel and I make soup and Leek and Potato bake. Order some new reading books for the children on line. Daniel desperate to read – need to encourage this!
Friday
Attend a prayer meeting with CWM and share the vision for the Ykids youth and children’s centre for the future. This centre is an impossible dream – that’s how I know it’s from God! Feel really blessed by the prayer and support. 1pm: have a meeting with a local secondary school deputy head about the Made Up project – a creative arts programme which builds self esteem. We have also gained funding to run a club for looked after and vulnerable children. He is delighted we offer so much to his school, but we see them very much as our kids too. 3pm: Interview a new member of staff for the Redi project. More paperwork – finally catch up on my emails for the week. Get home put boys to bed – more Silver Sword. Finish off the Kids church rotas and email out all the teaching to my team of kids workers from church.
Saturday
Liverpool One Odeon bargain Saturday morning cinema, Watch ‘Mall Cop’, then have
a picnic in Chavasse Park. Back home and watch another movie on DVD -
Sunday
Kids church at Emmanuel Baptist. We are getting geared up for our mission week. Meet
with Ian Doddridge about some prep for the mission then home for roast dinner cooked
by Mark. Yum. Sunday is a feast day so no worrying about my diet. Ate two French
fancies! Went for a cycle with the boys on Otterspool promenade (feel less guilty
about the French fancies now). Spent the evening ironing school uniforms and watching
the X factor on catch up. Tired now -
