In Ps 110, one of David’s psalms, which unpacks a vision of God’s expanding kingdom, we read this in v3
Psalm 110 v3 NASB
‘Your people will volunteer freely in the day of Your power;
In holy array, from the womb of the dawn, Your youth are to You as the dew.’
I love this hugely encouraging psalm. It gives me hope for all that God is yet to do. One of those things is to release a movement of young people and for young people. A movement that I believe will trigger the wider church to a renewed zeal and commitment to action, to fighting the battles that need to be fought, and to releasing his power. I believe that when the rest of us see an army of young people rising up in passionate love for Jesus, we will be provoked to jealousy and will respond in like manner.
It is said that more than 80% of people following Jesus made the decision to do so before they were 18. Imagine what a church might look like if it put 80% of its resources into reaching under 18yr olds. Sounds crazy doesn’t it! But I do think we need to rethink our whole approach to kids and youth work, and at very least give it a greater profile and priority in our churches. Imagine if 80% of our adults (us) made the decision to volunteer in some capacity for our kids and youth work and see it as a massively important investment not a baby sitting service. What a difference might that make?
